Certificado de concordancia: the certificate that links your old NIE to your new DNI
When you become a Spanish national, your DNI comes with a brand-new number and leaves behind the NIE you were registered under everywhere. The certificado de concordancia proves that both are yours. When you really need it, when you do not, where to apply and what the fee is.

What the certificado de concordancia is
When you obtain Spanish nationality you receive a DNI (the Spanish national identity card) with a new number, which looks nothing like the NIE you had as a foreign national. But your bank account, your Social Security work history, your car and the deeds to your flat are all still under that NIE. The certificado de concordancia is the official Policía Nacional document proving that the NIE and the DNI belong to the same person.
You apply for it at a comisaría, with a cita previa, and it is a separate procedure from the NIE and TIE ones. If you are still not sure which of those was which, we explain it in NIE and TIE: the difference.
When you need it and when you do not
Not every public body will ask you for it. Some check the change directly with the police:
| Where | What you have to do |
|---|---|
| Traffic authority (driving licence and vehicles) | Online you do not need the certificate: the DGT (Spain's traffic authority) checks with the police if you give your consent. In person, or if you do not give it, they do ask for it |
| Tax agency | You report the change from NIE to DNI with modelo 030, the tax agency's form for personal details |
| Bank, notary, registry, employer | The certificate is the official document that proves you are the same person |
With the DGT, the change also covers everything at once: linking the NIE to the DNI updates your driving licence and any vehicles in your name.
Where to apply
At a Comisaría de Policía Nacional. On the official appointment portal the procedure is called "POLICÍA - CERTIFICADOS CONCORDANCIA", and our certificados de concordancia page shows which provinces list it.
Not every province does. If yours does not, ask your comisaría which procedure they handle it under before getting an appointment that is no use to you. And if you are thinking of going to another province, first read when you can get a cita in another province.
What to bring
The police do not publish a single list of requirements for this certificate, and each comisaría has its own habits. What does not change:
- Your DNI.
- Your old NIE: your old TIE, the green certificate or any document that shows the number.
- Proof that you have paid the fee. Police certificates are paid for with modelo 790, code 012 (the police fee form), under the heading "Certificados o informes emitidos a instancia del interesado": €7.31.
Check with your comisaría which application form they use and whether they want photocopies. It is one phone call that saves a second appointment.
If there are no appointments
In the busiest provinces, available appointments for this procedure do not last long. The same playbook applies as for any other immigration appointment: what to do when there are no appointments.
You can also create an alert for certificados de concordancia in your province and you will get a notification by email or Telegram as soon as our checks find available appointments. You book it yourself on the official portal, free: Cita Ping does not book for you and cannot guarantee you an appointment.
