Picking up your TIE card: the pickup appointment, lotes, and walk-in pickup
Your card is already printed — between you and it stands one last appointment, and at some offices, a batch number. How TIE pickup works, what the "lote" everyone in València asks about actually is, when you can collect without an appointment, and what to do when the pickup slot never shows up.
Where and when you collect it
The TIE is always collected at the same office where you gave fingerprints — the physical card is delivered there, and no other office can hand it to you. The usual wait is 30 to 45 days after fingerprints, depending on the province. On pickup day bring your fingerprint receipt (resguardo) and passport, plus your previous card if you were asked for it. The pickup appointment: same portal, different bottleneck
Pickup has its own procedure on the cita previa portal — Policía: TIE card collection — separate from fingerprints. The good news: in several provinces, pickup appointments appear considerably more often than fingerprint ones. València is the clearest case in our open availability data; if you are elsewhere, check your province's pattern before despairing.
What the "lote" is (and why everyone in València asks about it)
Cards do not arrive at the office one by one: the national mint (FNMT) ships them in batches — lotes. Some large offices, València-Marítimo first among them, organise delivery by batch number: the office announces which lotes are ready for collection, and booking a pickup slot only makes sense once the batch containing your card has arrived. The number is tied to your file or receipt, and the exact details — where to look it up, how arrivals are announced — vary by office; trust your office's official announcements, not screenshots circulating in Telegram groups. If your lote has not arrived, no appointment will speed things up: the card simply is not there yet.
Can you pick up the TIE without an appointment?
Depends on the office. Some police stations hand out cards without an appointment during set hours; others always require one, and the policy shifts with workload. Before showing up at the door, check your office's official information or ask on fingerprint day — when you are standing right there and will get a definitive answer. When in doubt, book the appointment: a trip to an office that is not doing walk-ins that day is a wasted morning.
